Remote Learning offer
This information below is intended to provide understanding to pupils and parents or carers about what to expect from remote education if local restrictions require entire cohorts or bubbles to remain at home.
How will my child be taught remotely?
We believe it is important to continue to provide your child with a broad and balanced education while at home, so we aim, where possible, to teach the same curriculum remotely as we do in school.
Some of the online activities or tasks may be adapted to ensure that the resources or equipment needed to complete activities for remote education are available for those learning at home.
Our remote learning approaches are constantly developing, as we strive to find the best solution for everyone. We consider the thoughts and opinions of staff, pupils and parents when adapting our remote learning provision.
In an aim to support pupils we provide a range of remote teaching approaches. These include:
- Live teaching through Microsoft Teams or recorded teaching with videos. These will be used to introduce or revisit new concepts.
- Quality pre-existing teaching videos, such as lessons from Oak National Academy, BBC Bitesize or White Rose Maths. The work provided will be set by the class teacher, however you may wish to click this link to browse the additional resources available:
- Live whole school assemblies with the Head Teacher.
- There will be a weekly focus for mental health and the wellbeing of pupils. Further information and support for your child’s mental health can be found in this link or by contacting the school’s SENCO/ Children and Families Team.
Weekly timetables for lessons and activities will be posted onto your child’s Class Dojo- If you do not yet have access to Class Dojo, please contact your child’s teacher who will provide an access code.
Accessing remote education
We recognise that some pupils may not have suitable online access or devices for use at home. We take the following approaches to support those pupils to access remote education:
- Where families qualify, school will issue or lend laptops to pupils. We have currently issued over 80 devices. Parents or carers can find more information about this by contacting your child’s class teacher.
- If your internet connection or data allowances are a barrier to your child’s learning, we can provide SIM cards allowing up to 30GB of data. To find more information about data sim cards, contact the school office.
- If a pupil does not have online access, they may receive a router/dongle with a prepaid monthly data allowance or printed materials to support their remote learning.
- A day and time can be arranged where it is possible for printed materials to be collected from the school office.
- If parents or carers cannot collect printed materials from the office, this should be discussed with a member of our Children and Families Team and alternative arrangements can be agreed.
Engagement and feedback
We will check and mark each child’s engagement with remote learning, for each subject set on a particular day. If there are concerns with your child’s engagement, we will:
- Aim to encourage your child’s engagement (through posts to the Class Story).
- Send you a private message, through the Dojo messaging system, checking if there are any possible barriers preventing your child from accessing the remote learning and offering further support.
- Contact you through a phone call.
- Conduct a home visit where needed.
We understand that home learning is a new concept for us all, and it can raise many challenges for parents and carers. Your child’s class teacher, SENCO, Children and Families Team are available for informal chats throughout lockdown to support you as parents and carers.
